# Semrush API documentation > Documentation for Semrush APIs providing SEO, keyword, backlink, website traffic, AI search, project, and local listing data. Semrush API has two current versions: Version 4 (v4) and Version 3 (v3). For new integrations, prefer v4 when the required functionality is available there. Some APIs and methods are available only in v3. Semrush API provides access to data and functionality from several Semrush toolkits: - SEO API – domain, keyword, backlink, and website analytics - Trends API (v3 only) – website traffic and market intelligence - Projects API – manage Semrush folders (v4), Position Tracking and Site Audit campaigns (v3) - Local API (v4 only) – Listing Management and Map Rank Tracker ## Choose the right API For the following tasks, use: - Domain, keyword, backlink, or competitor data → SEO API → check v4 first; use v3 for methods available only in v3 - Website traffic, AI search traffic, or market data → Trends API → v3 - Manage Semrush folders → Projects API → v4 - Manage Position Tracking or Site Audit campaigns → Projects API → v3 - Local listings or map rankings → Local API → v4 - AI agent access to Semrush data → Semrush MCP Server (see For AI agents) ## For AI agents Use the **Semrush MCP Server** instead of calling the API directly when the data you need is supported. - [Semrush MCP server](https://developer.semrush.com/api/introduction/semrush-mcp/): `https://mcp.semrush.com/v2/mcp` — the recommended way for AI agents to reach Semrush data. Covers all Trends API and SEO API methods plus read-only Projects API methods, with setup instructions for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Antigravity 2.0, Antigravity CLI, Perplexity, and Lovable. Gemini CLI support is discontinued; use Antigravity instead. Consumes the same API units as direct API calls. - [Semrush MCP server FAQ](https://developer.semrush.com/api/introduction/semrush-mcp/#faq) ## Documentation by version Documentation is organized by API version. Each version has its own `llms.txt` index. After selecting the appropriate API and version, use that version's `llms.txt` index to find the guides, API references, tutorials, use cases, and release notes relevant to that version. - [Semrush API Version 4 documentation index](https://developer.semrush.com/api/v4/llms.txt): SEO API (Backlinks, Keyword reports), Projects API (folder management), and Local API (Listing Management, Map Rank Tracker). - [Semrush API Version 3 documentation index](https://developer.semrush.com/api/v3/llms.txt): SEO API (Domain, Overview, URL, subdomain, and subfolder reports), Trends API, and Projects API (Position Tracking, Site Audit). ## Support - [Semrush Knowledge Base](https://www.semrush.com/kb/) - [Semrush Sales](https://www.semrush.com/company/sales/): request API access, custom plans, or enterprise licensing - [Semrush Tech Support](https://www.semrush.com/kb/264-contact-semrush): request help with API access, authentication, API keys, request errors
